 Today in class we read about eight causes of bad breath and how they can affect a person. I learned that a shortage of saliva can cause bad breath, heavy amounts of alcohol, and a large amount of bacteria can cause bad breath. I already knew brushing your teeth before you go to bed and first thing in the morning was important but I never knew the specific details on why. The class also saw world records of a famous tightrope walker and how his accomplishments tied into the poem we read.

 Today in class we had a second day to finish our benchmark and got a refresher for how we all have to perform for the upcoming EOC test.

 Today we looked over and read a passage about the way language was used between Chinese people in the U.S. Most of the time, speakers have to articulate ways they use English with certain people. We read that some Chinese in America don’t use articles when they speak. The speaker of the text reveals that she sometimes has to switch her speech depending on the people she talks to.

 Today we looked over facts about going to college, the several fees for it, and the importance of getting degrees while in college. I learned that any and all college is expensive and it can be difficult to pay the different fees to attend. Students usually use take the route of using student loans to pay things off but most students fall into several thousands of dollars in debt and can take a while to pay it back 

 Today we sat in a video call with a representative of agents who’s job is to help out students to find careers, help with assignments, essays etc. We set up accounts and gave our numbers to get set up with an agent and now we have access to whatever help we need for any internships or assignments at anytime.

 Letter 22 is the letter where we finally meet Shug Avery in The Color Purple. One thing that stood out to me was the description of her looks, her behavior she was mostly known for and her personality towards the end.

 In today’s class we began to read the first few letters from The Color Purple. We also discussed the intense situations from the main character in the first few letters and looked at the common themes from the book.

 Something I used to know how to do was play the piano. A few years ago, I had lessons for about eight months and was decent at the time. But I soon lost the feeling to play the instrument and now I don’t know how to play it anymore.

 A year or two ago, I planned on helping with a friend of mine and his heating and air business. One day we had a job that dealt with mostly electricity, which is dangerous enough. Suddenly it started to storm which meant we had to take caution and reschedule the job to be done another time.

 Something that doesn’t get better is possibly witnessing an event that could permanently be trapped on a person’s mind. This situation is often called being “scarred” in most cases. Many people have either heard or seen something harsh. Or maybe even felt a type of way about something for a long period of time and became physically or emotionally scarred.

 Today in class, we discussed what could make a person lose their minds. Another poem by Emily Dickinson was also shared about how it felt for a person to lose their mind. 

 Today’s lesson in classes revolved around a discussion is students had about the curriculum and things we see in class that we think are pointless. Instead of the original lesson plan going over poems, we saw a glimpse of things we would see in adulthood involving ownership of property, interest rates, and what minimum wage looks like. 

 The lesson today was dealing with two poems by Emily Dickinson. The first was about being Somebody, meaning you are typical, common, expected. And being Nobody, different, their own person. The second poem was about how hard it is to forget your love and it takes time to get over a relationship.

 Today’s lesson was on how to classify arguments and how arguments are put together. Arguments are claims that are supported with evidence and not opinions. Often times arguments are caused by self beliefs and claims between others. However, an argument cannot go against a proven fact.

 

 Today, I learned an important lesson about jealousy. People can become jealous when they see a person is looking, feeling, or doing something better than another person. We read a story about how deadly and harmful jealousy can be. At the end of the day, the lesson is to congratulate or pay no mind to things that cause an envious mindset inside of us and keep our goals as our main objective.

 In class, we discussed Native American Literature. Something new that I learned on the topic was that there were more than only few tribes of Native Americans, there were hundreds that spoke many different languages. I also read about the Navajo creation which I thought had many similarities to Christianity. It had many details on the creation of the world around us, similarities to mythology, social values, customs, and cultural details.

 My dream is to be successful or feel success in my art, music and mechanical skills. I can achieve these dreams by practicing what I preach every chance I get and with whatever time I can make for myself to be better than I was before. I can avoid deferring it by always keeping my motivation in mind and understanding that I do have talent in what enjoy and always have room for improvement.

 Hello, my name is Malachi Hawkins. This is my junior year here at cedar grove high school, I’m 16 years old and my expectations this year are to pass with a high gpa and keep a good record. Things I like to do are draw and make art, automotive mechanics, and make my own music.
